The water is high up on Tug River during flood season; or it could mean high upstream on the Tug River near its confluence with the Big Sandy River at Louisa, Kentucky. From there is forms the West Virginia, Kentucky border flowing SSE clear to the Virginia border near the towns of War Eagle and Mohawk. The Hammonses lived along the river at one time, involving themselves in the logging industry that would float the logs down river to their destination. Edden Hammons plays a clear, precise setting of this tune on Volume Two of the Edden Hammons Collection CD from recordings made in 1947.
