17. Sallie Cooper

This is another rare tune from John Salyer. The repetition of notes and syncopation suggests a strong African-American origin. As with many tunes played solo, the number of times phrases are repeated tends to vary. On the recording Salyer plays the whole tune three times through, with the A-part repeating first 10 times, then 8 times, and as the tune fades out he’s still playing it after the 10th time. We have standardized the A-part at 8 repetitions so we could play together more easily.
