The most famous member of royalty with this reference would be Marie Antoinette, born 1755 in Austria. At age 15 she was betrothed to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, and four years later, when he was crowned King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette became Queen of France. The French people initially celebrated her vibrant personality and beauty, but soon came to dislike her because of rumors of her promiscuity, extravagant spending and sympathies for France's enemies. True or not, the French Revolution of 1789 ended the monarchy and imprisoned the King and Queen. Nine months after King Louis was guillotined, Marie Antoinette was executed on October 16, 1793 in the same fashion. This tune was played by both David R and Williamson Hamblen and written in the key of C. We have tuned our fiddles a half step low.
