Hankin's Raid
This tune comes from the Hamblen
Collection of fiddle tunes from the early
1800s. David R. Hamblen was born in
1809 in Cumberland Gap Virginia. His son, Williamson Hamblen in 1846, and
his son, A. Porter Hamblen in 1875.
Williamson moved to Brown Co., IN
in 1858. A. Porter transcribed 39 of the
family fiddle tunes and donated them
to the Library of Congress in 1955.
This tune is from Williamson. I have
searched in vain to find an officer named
Hankins from the Civil War, or earlier
conflicts, who may have carried out raids
against his enemy. Chris fiddle: adae.
