Hickory Jack
Luther Strong (1892-1963) of Hazard, KY recorded this tune for Alan and Elizabeth Lomax for the Library of Congress in 1937. It comes from the coal fields in the southeastern part of the state, which began mining operations in the1820s. Born in Breathitt Co., he lived in several places and in 1920 moved to Hamilton, OH, back to Hazard for the LOC recordings and then in 1940 on to Scott Co., IN. He was an outstanding fiddler, influential where ever he went. Chris & Mark double fiddle: aeae.
